  The Aves
Played live to air on - The Range
Tuesday September 14, 4pm

The Aves are an odd bunch: Lucy, the British-speaking-Lennon-loving lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Florentina the-whimsical-dinosaur-enthusiast drummer and vocalist, Tasman the-bargain-hunting-alleyway-boffin bassist and Thomas, the-footloose-and-fancy-free guitarist. Firm devotees of an eclectic range of influences, from guitars to key lime pies and obscure British novels about Latin, twits and tweed, The Aves make accessible dancy stuff with the four part vocals of The Beatles and something else entirely their own. They even have solid proof that somebody else likes their music, with their first two demos reaching the high echelons of the 3D radio charts.

Dexter Jones is a local four-piece alt-pop-rock act. With catchy guitar driven riffs, vocal harmony hooks, and up-tempo beats, they have been likened to acts such as Franz Ferdinand and The Hives. Dexter Jones is not "post modern", it's a post-POST modern band: The songs are derived from a wide range of modern musical styles. A genre is chosen for its fancied appropriateness to the lyrics, or vice versa. Selecting what they consider to be the best aspects of late 20th Century music, Dexter Jones serve up an eclectic mish-mash of pop sounds that are still somehow cohesive.

  ENOS
Played live to air on - Primetime Jazz
Wednesday September 15, 7pm
listen to interview | listen to performance

ENOS is an acronym for "English New Orleans Style". Our band originated when the late John Pickering asked me to put together a New Orleans style band for a gig at a winery. The current personnel is the original apart from John Coultas replacing "Picko" on trombone. Ron, Con and I are English and played jazz there for many years before coming to Australia. All of the band members are familiar with the style of the early Ken Colyer and Chris Barber bands, and that is the style in which we play, with a focus on ensemble work with plenty of light and shade. Ken Colyer and Chris Barber had a skiffle group as a subset of the band, and so do we. I started playing as a skiffle group guitarist, so it is as though I have gone "full circle".

Sunday September 19, 11am
listen to interview | listen to performance

Phil Parker, Andrew Hook, Dave Taylor, Geoff Bridgland are Old South Bluegrass. We're all getting older and all heading South - ain't that the truth.... We haven't got an uncle named Pen or lost all our money but a two dollar bill, but we still do Bluegrass, Americana & Folk - we've kept the best of the old and the best of the new. The same broken hearts and lonesome nites of the 1940's with the authentic train wrecks and lost dogs of the present. Hot bluegrass, soulful blues, smooth harmonies, fast instrumentals. And all this misery and tears wrapped in the joy of singing and playing acoustic only. With over 100 years of playing experience we should know better....
