Hear them live - Roundabout
Thursday September 11, 1pm

Musical Director Daphne Harris was a professional Operatic Soprano for much of her working life, and, as a teacher of singing, shows considerable skill in getting good performances from a very diverse collection of voices. Members travel from all over the metropolitan area - some using public transport - and make a weekly contribution to the expenses of our amazing accompanist, Sue Nancarrow. Co-ordinator Barbara Coomblas deals with the general administration, as well as occasionally arranging music for the choir. We have a treasurer, Beryl Sutton, and secretary Irene Bamfield, and a small executive committee. Most other choir members assist in some way with other necessary tasks.

  Ash Grunwald
Hear them live - Open Range
Saturday September 13, 2pm

It is too simplistic to describe Ash Grunwald as just a blues musician. Born of an African father and an Australian mother, Ash was drawn to the blues from an early age. Combining delta blues with hypnotic, ‘phat’ grooves, this one-man band has the voice of an angel working on the chain gang. More than just a powerhouse vocalist, Ash is sliding, stomping and hollering his way into the lives of fresh audiences around the globe.

  Jane Badler
Hear them live - Breakfast with Peter Godfrey
Friday September 12, 8:15-8:45am

Unstable Ape Records is proud to present THE DEVIL HAS MY DOUBLE, the new solo album by Hollywood glamour icon JANE BADLER, with Melbourne band SIR. The album is a mix of fame, sex and solitude, set to a sweeping soundtrack of cold soul and passionate synthetics. THE DEVIL HAS MY DOUBLE is a tale of too much, too long - how a charmed life has a price that eventually must be paid. Lyrically and musically, the album reflects Jane’s remarkable life and career, from her initial public notoriety as Miss New Hampshire in the 1972 Miss America pageant, to her long and varied career in Hollywood B films and television. Jane is best remembered for her portrayal of sexually-charged villain Diana in the cult sci-fi classic ‘V’.

  Cal Williams Jr

Wednesday September 10, 6pm

Three times winner of 'the South Australian songwriter of the year' and Bank's Music 'Best New Music' Award winner Cal Williams jr has recently released his debut UK album 'Driving as a form of prayer' to exceptional reviews. "This album is absolutely fantastic and delivers on every level. You actually feel as if you out in the Wild West just sort of checking stuff out. The songs feel so pure that I can't fault this album at all, every aspect of it was phenomenal. With the album I got a little piece of paper say that Cal had won the "South Australian song writer of the year" award 3 times as well as the Banks music "Best new music" award. Quite rightly so it would be a crime for this artist to go unnoticed

  Cookie Baker
Hear them live - Breakfast with Peter Godfrey
Monday September 8, 8:15-8:45am

Cookie Baker grew up on a farm by the seaside. She can be spotted gallivanting around our fair city and consistently throughout the countryside. She also has a talent for hiding and is a sucker for adventure. However, the warm melodies, cool wordsmithery and a sugar-velvet voice that Cookie pulls from thin air and wraps in her whimsical guitar ‘n’ piano licks create a potent faux-folk pop-cabaret sensation that these experiences and environments only serve to benefit. . After sell out shows at the Adelaide Fringe in 2008 Miss Cookie is currently recording her much-anticipated debut album, to be released through Mixmasters/MGM later this year.

Alongside the interdependence between drum and dance leis the song, which accompany each rhythm and are sung in Mandinka and Wolof languages.   Grifters Inc
Hear them live - Represent
Friday September 12, 6pm

Grifters Inc were formed when former battle rapper Trumps, heard the production work of vinyl fiend and part time hermit Kast. Trumps was very taken with the producing, and instantly stole two beats from Kast. Over soup mugs full of coffee, youtube videos and joint internet vinyl orders, an agreement was reached. Several months, a few arguments over beats and almost a whole album later, Trumps thought of the name "Grifters Inc". When Kast decided he was too lazy to argue, the name was deemed official. Grifters Inc have an album on the way called "A Creature of the Night", and you should look out for it.

Their unflagging work ethic and persistence ensured they would be heard Australia wide thanks to the odd play on indie rock radio stations such as Triple J and Radio Adelaide. Nigel Black has said the name selection was "pretty random" but comes from the idea that nothing is certain, but "mere theory." In both their home town of Adelaide and particularly in Melbourne and the Gold Coast, they have received cult status among local music lovers. The large amount of fans they have on their myspace[3] and the amount of people who attend their gigs is testament to the rapidly growing appreciation for their no-frills, no-nonsense brand of music.

  Native MC
Hear them live - Hip-Hop Mania
Monday September 8, 9:30pm

I ‘m Andnyamathanha and Ngarrindjeri born on Narrunga land but grew up in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Hanging out with a local crew who was fully into graffiti during my teenage years, started me listening to hip hop. I really related to this music, not because of the gang violence stuff but its expression of frustration, struggle and racism really struck a chord. Studying at uni, learning more about history, politics and cultures convinced me to make music that younger people can relate to. I was experiencing many worlds and needed to express this. Working in schools as a cultural educator & teaching literacy through hip hop allowed me to focus on my writing. I’ve done gigs at the Big Day Out, Fuse Festivals and the Adelaide Fringe and the Dreaming Festival in Queensland where I performed featuring the Ancient Ones. Everything I rap about is real; it’s from life as experienced by me or my brother boys.

Danceable, uplifting- blending traditional music’s with original compositions they've created their own world fusion. Nice Verdes have, and continue to travel, learning, studying, and collecting tunes and influences from around the world, especially from Africa and Latin America. Their sound is unique and hard to categorize, all at once bluesy, latin, gypsy, jungle, folk, and constantly growing- remaining true however, to the spirit of the peace march, celebrating unity in diversity, equality, and sound 'ecology'.

Monday September 8, 9.30pm

Jack Ansell aka Jack of Spades
Over the last couple of years I’ve done a lot of writing. It’s a really great to express myself and such a creative way to convey frustrations, angst and whatever. There’s plenty to write about as I’m a Ngarrindjeri and Arunda young fella growing up in the northern suburbs. Eventually I see myself as working in the music industry as a sound engineer or music producer. I’m interested in a range of musical styles but my first passion is hip hop. My interest in music production has strengthened since I won a national then international media award for a movie sound track I created a couple of years ago when I was only 15.

Dillon Kite aka Nunga Outlaw
Our music is political hip hop but recently we’ve started writing some tracks with less politics. Music gives me a voice and it shows other fellas how to respond to the frustrations of life in a less destructive way. Our message is to stand up, to feel good and proud and as a Pitjantjatjara, Ngarrindjeri, Kokatha person I feel really proud when communities ask us to perform because it means they like what we’re doing. I’m 16 and still at school but I want to see where hip hop will take me. Tupac is my favourite artist.

The Warsaw Flowers formed in early 2007. The Warsaw Flowers are James Stewart, Angus Stewart, Jason Coe and Alister Douglas. The Warsaw Flowers find it so hard to classify their music that they've just about given up trying. If pressed, The Warsaw Flowers will mumble something about "alternative-acoustic-electric-indie-folk-pop-americana-core-alt.country-rock-wave". The Warsaw Flowers don't really know what that means, either. The Warsaw Flowers listen to R Kelly as much as they listen to Elliott Smith. The Warsaw Flowers aren't Polish and they know nothing about horticulture. However, The Warsaw Flowers hope you enjoy their music as much as they enjoy making it.
